SCM Welcomes Guest Speaker - Keithen Carter

 

Keithen Carter , a versatile singer, lyricist and writer, an artist and actor has been at the heart of Chicagos R&B scene for years. His roots began in the real-deal, pre-technology days of Chicago R&B. In the studio every day were real players playing real grooves.He co wrote with Pat Lenard who went on to work with Madonna on her true Blue Album and Keithen featured on backing vocals and performed live . Keithen has written for Chaka Khan, Peabo Bryson, Stephanie Mills, Evelyn Champagne King, Ramsey Lewis, Hiroshima, Stanley Clark, Thelma Houston Curtis Mayfeild , Jerry Butler ,Shaun Christopher, Hiroshima and many more. Keithen and Philip Bailey, of Earth, Wind and Fire, earned a Grammy for their collaboration.
Keithen has been co writting with Jon Smith who has also with the top R&B groups of the day including The Chi-Lites, The Dells, Linda Clifford, The Manhattans, Peter Brown and many others. Jon later worked with The Police, TPau, Love & Sas, Darryl Jones and Lisa Fisher of the Rolling Stones and countless others. Keithen and Jon also worked in the advertising world out of Chicago their work is legendary. Jon has recorded and produced thousands of commercials - including international winners of Clio, Cannes Lion, Mercury, Andy, Grandy and others. Jon has recorded and mixed music for 14 Super Bowl commercials in the past 5 years - 8 of which had a Top 5 USA Today ranking.
On the dance music scene, Keithen and Jon's writting have been building a reputation on the dance scene. Their collaboration on Max Linen The Soulshaker and Flashback have earned them a top spot on virtually every major chart. These charts include Mixmag, Buzz, Coolcuts, DJ Mag, DMC Ibiza and many others. Their songs have reached radio with plays on Radio One, Kiss FM and Galaxy FM. Many other songs including Kujay Dadas Everything and I Came Back with featured vocalist Darryl DBonneau, have had similar success with weekly airplay on MTV and great radio support. licensing has seen many the songs appear on compilations by Ministry of Sound, Global Underground, Virgin, Hed Kandi, Space and featured on Compilations around the world . Top DJs such as Pete Tong, Erik Morillo, Judge Jules, Roger Sanchez, Seb Fontaine, Robbie Rivera, David Morales, Tall Paul, Boy George, Paul Van Dyk, and Danny Tenaglia have championed their work. Keithen and Jons work has been praised in Billboard, Mixmag, M8, DMC and International DJ magazines. In 2005 there song co written with Debra Andrews Blue Water by The producers Black Rock, went to Positiva.

 

 

R-Tunes Release Student Music

 

R-tunes music store www.rtunesmusicstore.com has teamed up with SCM to offer students of SCM the opportunity to release there music on rtunes music store, this creates a unique opportunity for all of the SCM students and clients.

 

 

SCM Students Involved In IPhone Development

 

SCM students were involved in the recording and editing of voice recognition software for Apple's new iphone.

The recording, editing, and mastering of the audio files took over 1 month and gave the students at SCM a great insight into the techniques and skills required for this type of proffessional project.

 

 

The Day James Came To Town

 

SCM welcomed James Mowbray. For those of you who don't know, James Mowbray is a professional DJ who performs at DC10 (Ibiza), Fabric (London), Turnmills (London), and Stealth . He also promotes his own parties in London called ‘Heavy Industries'.

And if that's not enough...

...James is a recording artist and producer, currently pressing on ‘Four:Twenty' Records, and for the icing on the cake.... He is also the current editor of ‘Mixmag' (national music press) and has been for the last four years.

James talked about his career, giving an insight into his success and explaining how he achieved his ambitions. He gave our students the low-down, drawing from his own experiences.
